Wow, so like… guess what just happened? The endless buzz around Persona 4 getting a remake? Yeah, it’s a thing now. Officially announced and everything. Earlier today — not that I was keeping track or anything — we got this sneak peek at an updated version of one of those games people can’t stop talking about.
So, the makeover’s called Persona 4 Revival. How’s that for a name? They dropped the news at that Xbox Games Showcase thing. Honestly, if you blinked, you might have missed it. The teaser was one of those under-a-minute deals, but it showed off some spruced-up graphics. I remember seeing a character zipping around Inaba, looking all fresh.
They’re calling Revival a “reimagining.” I mean, what does that even mean? Couldn’t tell you. The press release didn’t give us any juicy details either. Oh, and there’s no release date yet. But hey, they’re working on it for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Game Pass folks — you’re in luck. It’s gonna be there on day one, or so they say.
Here’s a plot twist — Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Yosuke, isn’t coming back. Right? Apparently, Atlus decided that. Some other actors who lent their voices to the original also bailed. Fans are convinced it’s some massive marketing gimmick because they all announced their exits in the order their characters show up in the game. Coincidence or crafty plan? No idea, honestly.
If you’re fuzzy on the timeline, Persona 4 came out back in 2008 on the PS2. Fast forward to 2012, they revamped it for the PS Vita as Persona 4 Golden. Then, it hit the PS3 in 2014. By 2020, the golden version slid onto PC, and more recently, it landed on PS4, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch in 2023. Those were just re-releases though, like with barely any tweaks. A full-on remake is another beast entirely, which is why everyone’s been chomping at the bit.
Director Kazuhisa Wada chimed in too. He said something in a press release — oh yeah, that they’re “confident this will be a fresh and surprising product for both newcomers and long-time fans.” Whatever that means. And, well, that’s kinda where the info train stops… for now.
