I checked out Arken Age because, well, there was this buzz about it. First time around, it hit PSVR 2 and PC VR— and it’s gearing up to make a grand entrance to Quest 3 and Quest 3S this November. Can’t say I’m entirely surprised; folks really dig it. It’s one of those single-player experiences that kinda pulls you in, like a good novel you accidentally read until 3 AM.
And here’s the thing, it’s like these developers are VR aficionados—a vibe, a feeling, almost like they scribbled notes while playing Stormland (2019) or Lone Echo (2017). If you know, you know. It’s got that heavy ‘hands-on’ engagement that’s a real treat for the senses.
Now, this game—it’s got range. You’ve got your ranged and melee combat, plus the exploration with all its ups and downs—literally. Climbing is its deal, and honestly, who doesn’t love the thrill of a virtual climb, right? The way they’ve tackled embodiment and diegetic design—yeah, fancy terms I know—just works. The immersion is the kind that sticks with you.
Visually speaking, Arken Age isn’t playing around. It looks better than your run-of-the-mill VR fare. And surprisingly, the Quest version seems to hold up. Yeah, it might not tie blow-for-blow with its PSVR or PC counterparts, but from the trailers? Color me impressed—I half-expected potato graphics.
Why does it look this good on Quest, though? Maybe it’s the extra oomph in the Quest 3 and 3S. Apparently, it’s waving goodbye to the aging Quest 2. About time, if you ask me.
The countdown is on for its drop on Quest, slated for November. No clue on the bucks yet, but if you’re curious, head over to the Horizon store. Wishlist it—and maybe grab a nap in anticipation.
