Alright, imagine this—Dropout, you know, the comedy streaming thing where College Humor morphed into something even cooler, is getting all sorts of buzz (thanks to Game Changer, duh). So this show, hosted by Sam Reich (yeah, he’s the CEO too—talk about multitasking), has these comedians doing wild and wacky stuff every episode. Got me thinking, what if Dropout did a video game of this madness? I mean, could they? Would they? Well, turns out, probably yes!
So, I had this Zoom chat with Sam. We were supposed to talk about Game Changer, but my mind, predictably, wandered to the “what ifs” of a video game spinoff. I had to know if they’d tossed around the idea of turning any of their shows into an actual playable game.
And Sam, being Sam, goes, “Totally,” like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. He mentioned Dimension 20, that crazy D&D thing they do, or maybe, yup, Game Changer itself.
Sam dives into the whole thing—the logistics, the big dreams, all that jazz. “It’s like, y’know, we don’t want to just hand it off to some rando company. It’s gotta feel like us,” he said. Feels like a personal project for them. Gotta admire that! It’s more like a time issue, though, apparently. They need to love it enough to make it happen—that’s the gist.
Anyway—and here’s the kicker—making games isn’t cheap or quick. Shocking, I know, right? I poked him about how serious they are, like, is this a daydream or a solid plan? And Sam? “We’ve definitely got ideas.” They’re kinda dipping their toes in with those web games you might’ve seen in Game Changer episodes. Testing the waters, I guess.
Sam seemed super positive about it—give it time, and we’ll probably see a Game Changer game. It’s just a matter of when and what. By the way, Season 7 of Game Changer wraps up on Dropout on August 11. Keep an eye on that while we all wait to see what crazy game idea they cook up!
