Alright, so let me just dive into whatever is happening with Cyberpunk—I’ll be honest, it’s kind of a jumble in my brain. But, oh well, here we go:
So, apparently, CD Projekt is cooking up a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. It’s not gonna be called Project Orion anymore. Now everyone’s just going with Cyberpunk 2—makes things simple, I guess. This popped up in some financial spiel or something like that, but I can’t keep track.
Anyway—ooh, side note—CD Projekt’s co-boss guy, Michał Nowakowski, had a bit to say on one of those investor calls. Someone asked if Cyberpunk 2 would drop in like 2030-ish. I mean, who plans their gaming around a year that sounds like a sci-fi title itself? But Nowakowski wasn’t buying it—well, sorta. He was all like, “Eh, each game is its own weird beast, so maybe, maybe not.” Classic non-answer, right?
Then there’s Ola Sondej, the PR bigwig, who’s like, “Hey, Cyberpunk 2? Not set in stone, folks. Just means another game in that wild universe.” Makes you think, doesn’t it? Or maybe not.
Jumping back—where was I? Oh yeah, so several weeks back, the red team—think that’s CD Projekt Red—wrapped up some conceptual phase stuff for this new Cyberpunk gig. I’m sure they high-fived or something. Got the engines running for pre-production. Woo-hoo, right?
Another random bit from their presentation: as of April 30, 96 folks are pulling the strings on Cyberpunk 2. Was 84 in February. It’s not nearly as wild as the 422 elves—eh, devs—working on Witcher 4, but still, decent crowd.
While I’m on this scatter journey of updates, Phantom Liberty’s apparently sold 10 million copies, and The Witcher 3 is sitting comfy at 60 million. Happy birthday or something, Witcher. Onward and upward, right?
And just to throw in a little twist, Mike Pondsmith—the TTRPG genius—says the new game’s setting will be like Chicago, but you know, if Chicago really went off the rails.
So, lots happening, or maybe not, depends on how you look at it. Guess we’ll just see how all these pieces fit—if they do fit. Or maybe I just need some coffee.
