Hey, so Square Glade Games here with some news! Outbound, yep, our little cozy exploration game, is making its way to PlayStation 5. Imagine starting with just an empty camper van and off you go, scavenging, crafting, turning it into your dream hideout. Whether you’re on your own or with friends, the world’s your oyster—or maybe more like your backyard barbecue?
So, I’m Marc Volger—one of the brains behind this—and gotta say, super excited to chat with our PlayStation folks. Tobi Schnackenberg (he’s my co-founder, you’ll like him) will also jump in with tales of inspiration from our game-making journey.
Okay, so what’s this “cozyvival” thing, you ask? We kinda coined it after we watched players during Alpha. They loved the chill survival stuff—like, managing energy, grabbing materials, growing food—while also enjoying just living van life, easy-breezy style. Totally the sweet spot we aimed for with Outbound. Not too hardcore, not too lazy. Just right.
Now, about your adventure—solo or with friends? Riding solo kinda feels like you’re off-the-grid, isn’t it? You collect stuff, slowly turn your van into something cooler. You’re in control, captain of your own ship, yada yada. But with buddies? Man, the vibe shifts—suddenly it’s more of a loud, cheerful road trip. Kinda like those wild trips you take with friends IRL, you know? Multiplayer’s not a must but hey, it adds some zing!
With the PS5, we’re making Outbound easy to grab ‘n’ go. Especially with PlayStation Portal—just imagine everyone chilling together, all connected. It’s that portable, spontaneous gaming fun we really think you’ll dig.
Anyway, inspiration talk time. Tobi was cruising from Germany to the Netherlands—picture-perfect scenes with camper vans and solar panels. That’s where the electric van idea popped up. Yep, sustainability is our jam. Sun, wind? Your energy besties. Recycling gets you cool new stuff. We’re all about weaving eco-friendly ideas into play. Little boats instead of giant ships, you get it.
Oh, and for the pupper lovers, guess what? You’ve got a furry friend with you. Yes, you can pet the dog. They’re not just there for cuteness—they help fetch stuff, carry goodies back. Pretty much adding another layer to the cozyvival vibe.
So that’s the scoop. Outbound isn’t about wizarding off to fantastical lands—it’s about adventures a bit closer to home. Can’t wait for you to jump in when we hit PlayStation 5.
