Oh boy, where do I even start with this one? So, here we are with what everyone’s going on about — Mario Kart World on the Switch 2. I remember the excitement when folks were pulling this shiny new thing out of boxes. I mean, who doesn’t love that new console smell, right?
Anyways, let’s dive in — or drive in? — and see if it lives up to the chatter. So, first off, you’ve got this massive mishmash of races, like way more than a baker’s dozen. Twenty-four, if I’m counting right, and yeah, it’s chaotic, but the tracks have opened up like the waistband after Thanksgiving. No more getting slammed with a shell from the guy way behind you. Thank goodness for small favors.
And as much as I like flying solo or smashing buttons with others, online play really did surprise me. It’s smooth — like butter on toast smooth. And the game chat? Free for now, so let’s party. Though, I’m probably starting solo ‘cause, you know, baby steps.
Now, talking about the game modes — Grand Prix, Time Trials, and VS Race return like an old friend. No 200cc? Well, welcome back 150cc, you unforgiving beast. But new kid on the block is Knockout Tour, a wild race where you better not blink. Maybe it’s just me, but it adds a jolt of adrenaline I didn’t know I needed.
And don’t even get me started on Battle Mode. Not much to see here folks, just the usual Balloon Battle and Coin Runners. Déjà vu, anyone? Fingers crossed they spice it up a bit. I mean, battle mode used to be my jam back in the day.
Oh! Almost missed it, but there’s a map icon tucked away like a secret. Talk about a buried treasure. It opens up free roam over these lush regions, though they’re not putting that in the spotlight. Priorities, Nintendo?
Now, Free Roam is kinda low-key delightful. A chill way to gather coins, and costumes, and snap a few pics. Even had a silly thought of hopping out of my kart to explore. Because why not?
Those P Switches — remember those? — are nothing short of maddening. They’re like, “Hey, challenge accepted.” Maybe they’ll work out the kinks, but my brain’s spinning from figuring these out.
Speaking of updates, they might wanna freshen up how you keep track of missions. The costume situation’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Can we talk about those stickers? They’re like the salad nobody wants.
Alright, shifting gears. The soundtrack — it’s like a love letter to Mario, and maybe we could jam to it while zooming around? Just a thought.
With all these combined tracks, the individuality is kinda lost. I miss those loops, man. Feels like only the start or end of a race stands out. And hey, while classics are cool, could we sprinkle in more new tracks? DK Spaceport rocked my socks, by the way.
I mean, longtime fans are gonna have a ball — mooing cows and all. And if you’re new, buckle up, ‘cause this ride is one of a kind. Who knows? Could be a classic in the making.
So, after a couple of week’s worth of driving — Mario Kart World is loads of fun. Looks sharp, sounds sharp, and zips around on the Switch 2 like there’s no tomorrow. Worth every penny… okay, maybe not all the pennies, but still! Here’s hoping for some DLC magic to fill in the gaps and zhuzh things up. This game? Definitely a winner, waving the checkered flag and all.
