Yuji Horii, man. Can’t keep a secret to save his life, I swear. But bless him for it.
So, there’s this buzz—more like a loose cannon shot—coming from the comic con in Napoli, Italy. I wasn’t there personally, but the grapevine is chattering away. People at this panel with Yuji Horii, yep, the Dragon Quest wizard himself, are saying he might’ve spilled a bit about a Chrono Trigger remake. It’s that game we all obsessed over, and Horii just kind of, maybe, let it slip? Who really knows, right? Crazy thing is, when pressed for more, he did one of those “Oops, didn’t mean it” moves, covering his mouth like the cat spoofing the canary’s escape. The interpreter jumped in with a classic “You heard nothing,” as if that would hush the crowd’s roaring approval. Spoiler alert: It didn’t.
By the way, Horii’s a bit notorious for this. Back in July 2015, the guy practically spoiled the party himself. Mentioned the English versions of Dragon Quest VII and VIII, which was news to pretty much everyone else. Dragon Quest XI too, said it’d hit the “NX”— which for everyone scratching their heads, is what they called the Switch back when it was just a sparkle in Nintendo’s eye. Probably blurted before Sony and the gang had their stuff together for PS4 and 3DS.
But, oh March 11—magic date for Chrono Trigger folks since it’s the original Japanese launch’s birthday, we’re 30 years deep now. Square Enix jumped in saying more anniversary fun incoming, kind of. Didn’t really lay down what that meant. But hey, sounds like a scene’s brewing.
