Hmm, so I sat down to jot some thoughts—no promises it’ll be polished, but let’s dive in. At Radio Free Nintendo, we’ve got this thing for Donkey Kong, the Big Ape. It’s like our own little myth, originating who-knows-when from the vanished Now Playing bits.
Is “The Big Ape” really fitting for DK? My mind wandered (surprise surprise), so let’s geek out with some ape facts, courtesy of The Center for Great Apes:
Okay, hair vs. fur—hair keeps growing like one of those awkward candle shop candles. DK’s got that hair tuft, so yeah, let’s count it. Then there’s fingernails doing their non-claw thing—hard to spot since DK loves a closed fist, but they’re there in some artwork. Thumbs? Check. He ties ties and drives stuff—brain power on display. Ever seen a prairie dog in a Go-Kart?
Prehensility—fists again coming in clutch. Padded digits? Who knows. And binocular vision for the inevitable brawls—double check. Smell? No idea. By now, I’d say DK pretty much ticks all the boxes of an ape. But hold up, there’s this juicy nugget from the Ape Center’s handy guide:
People get apes and monkeys all mixed up—apes are bigger, brainier, live longer, and yes, no tails. Monkeys got tails. Diddy Kong’s lacking that ape vibe, won’t live as long, so yeah, ouch.
Switching gears—Donkey Kong Bananza had a Direct last week. 15 minutes of game stuff—Pauline (a junior version) is tag-teaming with DK. Lore gets weird, but let’s not go there. Just remember: Pauline’s a human, so technically an ape? Maybe. Diddy? Nah. Poor guy’s destiny seems pretty short in lifespan terms.
James rambles on Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. It’s all systems, economy, and err…confusion? Mine stuff, improve stuff, cut trees, make better weapons, rinse repeat—chaos.
Post-ramble break, Jon’s letting go of old consoles to grab GameStop offers. But boom—Special Agent Steve of GameStop’s InfoSec isn’t having it. Bug hunts gone wild there. Greg’s got updates on Mario Kart World and F-Zero GX. Switch 2 boasts these super single-player modes. Trippy how two major Switch 2 games are racers. Guillaume and James played with Switch 2’s GameChat too. Tech playtime!
We thought about doing some Listener Mail for marketing ideas in Mario Kart World. Feel like pitching ideas? Go ahead!
And hey, about that whole epithet/nom de guerre confusion—I’ll never figure it out. It’s just a nickname. Whoops, I’m off on a tangent again.
