So, here’s the scoop, or bit of chaos, on Ubisoft—yep, that’s right, the people who brought us all those times we pretended to be sneaky, historical ninjas. Apparently, there are more updates for Assassin’s Creed Shadows than… well, you’ve ever shaken a bo at? (What even is a bo? A stick, I think?) They’re all like, “Hey, we’ll throw you free stuff every now and then,” with things like new quests or, I dunno, a game plus mode. They said this on a Wednesday, but who really knows what day it is anymore.
Anyway, speaking of updates, Shadows’ first one, Claws of Awaji, is arriving some time later this year. Yes, Awaji Island—it’s somewhere in the eastern part of Japan’s Inland Sea (don’t ask me to find it on a map, I’d just get lost!), but the expansion means you can wander around there. Before, it was just visually teasing us from a distance.
Oh, and the plot thickens, continuing right after Shadows’ epilogue with our pals Naoe and Yasuke. Ten hours of extra gameplay, they say. Plus, a nifty bo for Naoe. Pre-order folks get it as a cherry on top, but no word on what it’ll cost the rest of us mere mortals.
Also, get ready for some free tidbits in the form of Story Drops. The first of these is about “The Works of Luis Frois.” He was, uh, that Portuguese missionary guy who popped up at the start of Shadows. And then in June, you’ll get another ally for your League of Hidden Blade (sounds mysterious, doesn’t it?). Each drop kind of fiddles with the game’s backstory in unpredictable ways. Ubisoft’s keeping us on our toes.
Developers, bless them, are tweaking things to make life easier—or should I say, to improve our quality of life in the game? There was something about a horse auto-follow patch that dropped earlier this month. Plus, Naoe and Yasuke are getting some parkour love with new moves. Fingers crossed they fix that thing where we can’t sell or break down items in bulk—I mean, come on!
Right now, you can’t jump from a standstill and grab a ledge that seems tantalizingly close. But don’t worry—that frustration is apparently in the developers’ crosshairs, too. Oh, and headgear in cutscenes? Yup, that’s finally becoming a thing. Plus, brace yourself for new game plus mode and some insane difficulty settings that are meant to torment, err, challenge us even further.
So there you have it—Ubisoft’s chaotic world expands, and we’re all just along for the ride.
