Oh man, so here’s the scoop—Shuhei Yoshida, you know, that bigwig from PlayStation? He let slip something pretty juicy to this VGC crew about a VR project that got axed. This guy was like the head honcho at Sony’s gaming studios until 2019 or something, and now—poof!—he’s not there anymore. But apparently, before he bounced, there was all this chatter about bringing back some old school games into VR. I mean, have you ever wondered what happened to those games we grew up with? Me neither, until now.
So, they were chitchatting about this game Jumping Flash, right? From, like, 1995—can you even? He called it a “first-person platformer,” whatever that means. And it was kinda cooking in some developer’s pot but fizzled out. No idea who these mystery devs were or when they pulled the plug. Honestly, feels like an episode mystery leads or something. They wanted Jumping Flash to be part of a new VR gig. Cool idea, but, yeah, didn’t happen.
Now, Yoshida did mention a win, something called Fantavision 202X. Ring any bells? Me neither. Apparently, it was a puzzle game reboot—another relic! It came out on PlayStation VR2, then hopped over to Steam. Optional VR thingy and all. Cosmo Machia, those are the brains behind bringing it to life—or so they say.
Even after bouncing from Sony in January, Yoshida’s still waving the VR flag. Was it January? Yeah, think it was. He had this “oops, my bad” moment about the whole headset thing in some Kinda Funny chat—not even kidding, that’s the name. But, like a true fan, he’s still rooting for stuff like Synapse and Before Your Eyes. Oh yeah, saw him at that Summer Game Fest hanging with nDreams and their new thing called Reach. Guess he can’t stay away, huh?
Anyway—wait—what was I talking about? Oh right, old games and VR. Who knew!
