You know, I was just noodling around the other day when I stumbled upon this PlayStation sale. July, man, halfway through and still going strong! And guess what? Massive discounts everywhere. So, if you’ve got a PS5 or PS4, check this out. There’s this one game—kind of hard to ignore really—because it’s like all over the place, winning awards and stuff.
Oh, right, it’s called Returnal. Yeah, heard of it? Housemarque did it, and it’s marked way down at the PS Store. Like 58% off or something wild like that. Normally it’s way up there—around $70—but now it’s dropped to $29.39. Not sure why it sounds like such a random number, but, hey, math, right? This deal’s disappearing faster than pizza at a teenage sleepover, though. Ends July 17, before the crack of dawn if you’re on Eastern Time. So, act like yesterday. Or don’t, and miss out. My choice, obviously.
There’s this whole plot thing too. So you, or Selene rather, crash land on some ever-changing alien world—like, could you imagine? Must’ve been quite the trip. Then it turns into this endless survival fight. Every defeat means starting over. Seriously, who comes up with this stuff? The planet and even your gear change every time you die. Adapt or get zapped, basically.
Back in 2021, Returnal came out, and critics were all over it. Like, Metacritic shows an 86 average. Not that I usually trust scores, but still. Awards? Oh yeah, it raked them in—Best Action Game at The Game Awards and some audio design accolade at the D.I.C.E. Awards. Can’t say I’ve ever won an award for listening, but hey, this game must sound epic.
Think we gave it a perfect score ourselves? Yep, 10 out of 10. Said it was one of those must-have PS5 titles. Housemarque apparently took the rogue-like formula and went big with it. Feels familiar yet new—contradiction? Maybe. But, somehow it works. Engaging, full of surprises, and kinda makes you wonder why you’re just now hearing about it. Or is it just me?
