You know, I heard somewhere — maybe it was a dream? Nah, it was real — that Nintendo’s new toy, the Switch 2, smashed some kind of record. They sold 3.5 million of these things in just four days. Four days! I mean, that’s quick, right? Like, I barely decide what to have for breakfast in four days, and they’ve already filled a billion homes, more or less. Compared to the first Switch’s debut back in March 2017 — which wasn’t too shabby, by the way — this is, like, a whole different level.
Nintendo folks are over the moon, obviously. They actually gushed about it being their ‘biggest global sales’ high for any hardware ever. Seems like they’re zooming toward their 15 million target by next March. Which — by my math that I don’t trust myself with — is well on the way.
Anyway, moving on, heard some stories about launch hiccups. Some folks in New York ended up with staples right through their screens. Imagine buying a brand new gadget and finding a hole in it! Yikes. They got replacements though, so I guess it wasn’t all doom and gloom, just a horror flick for a day or two.
Meanwhile, over in the UK, the boxes were open when they arrived. Broken tape or something. I’ve had more secure Amazon packages. But hey, maybe it makes unboxing easier? Or it’s a new trend. Who knows?
Let’s talk specs for a hot second. Sure, the battery dies a bit quicker, but it’s got these Joy-Con 2 controllers you can use like a mouse. Wild, right? The screen’s now 7.9 inches — pretty specific if you ask me — and rocks a 1080p with 120Hz. So all you pixel peepers out there will have things popping out at you more, I guess.
And underneath it all, there’s an ARM something or other, Nvidia za-zing, with a sprinkle of LPDDR memory and a dash of 256GB storage, extendable if you’re into that stuff. Rumor’s going that you could DIY some fancy SSD hack on it, but I can’t say for sure. Tech wizards — do your thing.
Still available in a couple of places like Best Buy and GameStop, if you’re wondering. Guess the demand didn’t entirely gobble up the stock yet. Go grab one if you feel like hopping onto this bandwagon.
Well, there you go. That’s what’s new in Nintendoland. Who knows what’ll happen next — maybe flying consoles. Okay, maybe not.
