‘Creator of “The Invisible Hours” Plans to Deliver Immersive Mysteries to VR, TV, and Film’

Sure thing! Here’s a reimagined version of that article:

—

So, let me spill the beans on something interesting. Rob Yescombe, ever heard of him? Well, he co-created this VR game called The Invisible Hours, back in 2017. And guess what? He’s got the rights back. I mean, wouldn’t it be something if he gave it a fresh coat of paint for today’s VR headsets and maybe even turned it into a TV series or film? Honestly, I’m getting excited just thinking about it.

Anyway, The Hollywood Reporter, which is usually spot-on, says Rob’s out there hunting for partners to turn this wild VR ride into a flick or maybe a series. Seriously, it’s one of those mind-bending mystery games that kind of feels like if Agatha Christie and Clue had a virtual reality baby. You’re like this invisible guest watching all these quirky suspects in a big ol’ mansion on an island. No kidding.

Here’s the kicker: you’re not actually a character in the game. It’s like you’re this invisible ghost who can swing through time to watch different moments unfold. Seven suspects, an engineer genius named Nikola Tesla gets the axe, and you’re just there, putting together the puzzle pieces. Wild stuff.

The game hit the shelves in 2017 for PC VR and PSVR, got some pretty sweet reviews too. In 2020, they wanted to bring it to the Quest. But then, boom, 2024 comes around and Tequila Works—the creators—closed up shop. Big bummer.

But now, with Rob back in the driver’s seat, he’s calling it a “prime candidate” for a do-over. “Best creative experience of my life,” he says. Fans still hit him up about the game. I mean, when something sticks with people that long, you know you’re onto something. And with VR kinda exploding with new headsets every other day, seems like perfect timing to me.

Rob’s not stuck in the past though. Dude’s been part of a ton of stuff since The Invisible Hours. He wrote for The Twilight Zone VR, Arizona Sunshine 2, and even a new game called The Precinct. Oh, and don’t forget the Netflix action film Outside the Wire and a comedy called Jackpot! with Paul Feig. Busy guy!

Fun fact—Rob’s also dabbled in some massive universes like Alien and Blade Runner. Family Guy too, for crying out loud. Talk about a mixed bag.

So, yeah. I’m curious to see where Rob takes The Invisible Hours next. Maybe the game will get a glow-up, or maybe we’ll be watching it on a screen soon. Either way, it feels like the start of something cool.
