MSI Unveils AMD Gaming Handheld and Upgraded Mid-Range Gaming Laptops at Computex

Sure, here it goes.

—

So here’s the thing — I’m not usually into the nitty-gritty of trade shows or product launches. Something about the whole razzle-dazzle of it feels a bit much, like a glitzy spectacle where everything’s shiny until it’s not. But then MSI rolled out their first AMD gaming handheld, the Claw A8 BZ2EM, at Computex, and yeah, it caught my eye. Mostly because they also dropped updates on their Crosshair and Cyborg laptops, and who doesn’t love a good gadget gossip sesh?

Now, MSI’s past gadgets, like the Claw 8 AI+, were all about Intel’s Core Ultra processors — the only big name sticking by Intel, like a trusty old pal. But guess what? They’re shaking things up, dancing with AMD now, too. This doesn’t mean an adios to Intel, just… expanding horizons, maybe?

Right, let’s chat specs. The Claw A8 BZ2EM comes packed with an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip. Fancy, huh? And it’s got this Xbox-style controller layout—thumbsticks, buttons, the works. Can’t say it doesn’t look snazzy. Oh, and they threw in Hall Effect joysticks to keep those thumbsticks from going wonky over time. Thoughtful, I suppose?

And the design! Rounded corners, chunkier grips. Guess they’re going for comfy over glam, and I kinda get that. Anyway, what’s interesting — at least to me, in my sidetracked way — is how much RAM it can handle. Up to 24GB LPDDR5x-8000! But then again, MSI’s mum about which configuration hits where, so consider it a mystery box.

I was briefly obsessed with Asus’ ROG Ally X handheld, which also rocked 24GB RAM. Shared memory between CPU and GPU worked wonders for performance there. So maybe MSI’s rolling the same dice? Who knows.

Oh, and battery life! 80 WHr that’s on par with the Ally X. Could mean hours of uninterrupted gaming bliss or… just a number. Not a clue till it actually hits and we see it in action.

Ports? All on top. A little cluttered, but hey, convenience matters — headphone jack, microSD reader, dual USB 4 Type-Cs. The works. Feels kinda futuristic, like tiny floating airstrips for your gadgets.

There’s more. MSI’s software tweaks let you access MSI Center via Xbox Game Bar. More control, less space. Sounds groovy but… it’s still Windows 11 underneath, and I’m not forgiving it for not being gamer-friendly yet. Progress? Maybe.

Still no whispers of prices or when you can actually nab one of these bad boys. Just anticipation hanging in the air, vague and tantalizing, like a pie in a cartoon window.

MSI also paraded laptops — Crosshairs and Cyborgs with revamped GPUs. They went with Nvidia RTX 5060 and 5070. Those digits mean power, I guess. Crosshairs in sizes galore, 16, 17, 18 inches. But naming’s a mess. Intel variants are Crosshair 18 HX AI or something, AMDs get the A tagged on. Labels! Why so confusing?

Battery, GPU, RAM, all sounds repetitive but then surprises with flash here and gigabytes there, like tech trivia bingo. You get RGB keyboards on some, but let’s face it — it’s more LEDs than you need.

Cyborgs go for style — translucent edges meeting metal lids. A weird contrast but somehow fitting for a system named after machine-people. The screens range from mundane to glorious, like a buffet where every dish tells a story. More specs, more confusion. Sometimes I wonder if they do this to keep us on our toes.

So yeah, MSI at Computex—ambitious, techy, full of elusive details that make you go, “Do I need this in my life?” Maybe not. But it sure makes for a fun read while we wait to see which store shelves they finally hit.

And hey, wasn’t there talk of arty laptops with fancy paint jobs? Or was that just a side note lost in the technology jungle? Hah, anyway, MSI’s partnership with AMG Motorsport keeps revving up. Speed, style, performance… it’s kind of poetic, in a way.
