In 2024, the PC gaming sector generated a staggering $41.6 billion in revenue. This insight comes from recent research by Midia, which predicts a continued upward trend, forecasting revenue to reach $44.5 billion in 2025 and soaring to $55.8 billion by 2031. For that year, PC gaming accounted for 21% of the total gaming revenue, trailing just behind consoles at $41.5 billion, and dwarfed by the colossal $108.1 billion generated by mobile games.
In terms of premium earnings—which include downloadable content (DLC)—PC games represented 38% of this revenue slice in 2024.
Examining the broader landscape, analyst Rhys Elliott points out that expecting double-digit growth in the gaming industry is unrealistic due to its current level of maturity.
In his discussion about Midia Research’s Global Games Forecasts 2025–2031, Elliott emphasizes, “Our premier games report highlights an important takeaway: as the games market has matured, anticipating double-digit growth has become somewhat of a pipe dream. It’s no longer about just getting by till ‘25, but rather holding steady till ‘26 with managed expectations.
