It all starts with finding a special portal—but that’s no easy feat. It randomly appears, and only the swiftest player can step through and become the formidable kaiju.

There’s been a noteworthy update as of January 18th: the spawn rate for these portals has reportedly doubled, offering players more chances to see their monstrous dreams come true.
When and Where to Spot Godzilla in Fortnite
To become Godzilla, your first task is to find a portal and be the first to dive in. But there’s a catch—the portal doesn’t show up in every game. Right now, there’s about a 40% chance it will appear, according to HYPEX on X, a boost from the initial 20% rate when Godzilla first roared onto the scene.
If luck is on your side and the portal does make an appearance, it shows up randomly right when the first storm circle starts closing in. You’ll get a heads-up with a security alert on your screen that reads, "Godzilla Portal is open," complete with a ping marking the portal’s spot.
To pinpoint the portal, just glance at your map, where it’ll be signaled with a Godzilla icon.
Because this portal shows up early in the match, timing is crucial. If it spawns far from your landing spot, you might want to stockpile ammo instead. That way, if you can’t make it, you can still dish out some damage to Godzilla from a distance.
There are also two quests you can tackle by engaging Godzilla:
To score maximum damage, focus on shooting the glowing spikes along Godzilla’s spine. They’re the key to dealing extra damage and rocketing up the damage leaderboard. Keep an eye on the "Damage Inflicted" stats below Godzilla’s health bar to gauge your impact.
How to Play as Godzilla in Fortnite
Once you manage to dive headfirst into the portal, you transform into Godzilla and unlock three mighty abilities. Plus, if you’re feeling particularly destructive, just stroll over other players to inflict damage!
