Alright, so here’s the deal. Samsung’s been kinda hush-hush about this mixed reality headset thing they’ve got cooking. It’s like they’re playing a game of peekaboo with it. Didn’t talk about it at Unpacked, not even at Google I/O. But — big breath — they did spill some beans in a recent call. Yep, it’s still happening this year. Whether we like it or not.
They’re calling it ‘Project Moohan’ for now, but that could change because, hey, names are flexible, right? No clue on the official name, launch date, or cost. It’s like waiting for a bus that’s supposed to be on time but, surprise, it’s anytime but. Daniel Araujo from Samsung’s mobile division casually dropped it during the Q2 2025 earnings chat, alongside the mention of some TriFold smartphone—which is another gadget hiding in the wings.
Oh, and there was this picture floating around the Internet. Well, “courtesy of The Verge,” they said. Anyway, I can’t stop thinking about how they showed the headset at Google I/O but didn’t really show it. You get me? Felt like they brought a cake to a party but didn’t let anyone eat it. Developers, the folks who’d actually build the apps, had a chance, but not as much as you’d think. Missed opportunities, folks. Go figure.
Samsung Unpacked happened in July, their own stage, and again… nada. No crowd-pleasing reveal for Project Moohan or the TriFold phone. Makes you wonder what’s cooking and when they’ll serve it. Maybe we’ll get another sneak peek — fingers crossed.
Okay, so here’s what we do know about Moohan so far. It’s rocking Android XR and the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, whatever those mean in human terms. The display’s Sony micro-OLED panels. No numbers on those yet. But slimming pancake lenses sound tasty, right? Automatic interpupillary distance (IPD) adjustment, eye and hand tracking… that’s all in the mix. And a magnetically-attached light shield. They’re even talking about removable batteries, which honestly sounds handy — avoid becoming a roast potato with a wired headset.
Controllers are supposed to be a thing, too, though who’s seen them? Not me. If you want more tech jargon, there’s a deep dive from December 2024 with all the juicy bits like comfort and how this Android XR blends with other systems like Horizon and VisionOS. I should’ve bookmarked that.
So…yeah, still a lot of darkness ahead but it’s like waiting for the sun, isn’t it? Keep an eye out. Or two.
