The latest Xbox consoles are now up for preorder, and we’ve got the scoop for you. After the big reveal at June’s Xbox Games Showcase in 2024, Microsoft has finally announced the release date and begun taking preorders for its trio of new Xbox console editions.
Here’s what you can expect: leading the pack is the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X priced at $599.99, an all-digital Series X in Robot White for $449.99, and a 1TB Series S also in Robot White for $349.99. These are set to officially hit the shelves in the U.S. on Tuesday, October 15, as mentioned in an Xbox Wire update. If you’re keen to ensure you don’t miss out during the holiday rush, preorders are open at the Microsoft Store starting today, August 21.
The Special Edition Series X definitely steals the spotlight with its expanded storage, doubling that of the standard model. Its design features a striking lime green-on-black speckled pattern. Microsoft describes this as a “celestial effect” that symbolizes the vast community of gamers across Xbox. But personally, I think it’s got a bit of an edgy vibe as well. Included with it is an exclusive Xbox Wireless Controller that sports a green back case for an extra touch of flair.
In a bold move, the Robot White Series X ditches the traditional disc drive, marking a first for Microsoft’s top-tier console. This change blurs the distinction a bit between the Series X and the more budget-friendly Series S. However, rest assured that the Series X still offers superior power. It’s $50 less than the standard black version that plays physical media, and yes, it comes with a matching white controller.
As for the new 1TB Series S, it’s simply a fresh color option. Since last fall, a 1TB Carbon Black Series S has been available, but it seems it’s on its way out. Microsoft’s announcement did note that fans can still grab this model “while supplies last,” highlighting that it’s primarily available via third-party sellers now. In contrast, the Microsoft Store currently lists only refurbished models.
