The buzz on the street is that Virtuos, kind of a big deal in game co-development, is cutting jobs. Heard about it first from this French journalist, Gauthier Andres, on BlueSky. He mentioned about a seven percent chop — that’s roughly 300 folks. Crazy, right?
So yeah, Virtuos came out and confirmed it. Over in Asia, 200 employees are, how do they put it, “redundant.” Europe’s seeing about 70 roles disappear, and in France, fewer than ten folks are affected. Why? They say it’s all about “changing needs” — whatever that means.
Apparently, gaming is getting trickier, and Virtuos is shaking things up to keep up. They’re talking about getting stronger in stuff like full game engineering and advanced art. You can just see them scrambling to keep that high-value game development going.
Here’s a bit of good news, though. Those affected aren’t being totally left in the lurch. There’s separation pay, plus some support to land new gigs. They even offered roles within their global setup. Nice touch, right?
Oh, and Virtuos has been busy. Remember The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered from earlier this year? That was them. They’re also working on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Yup, really happening. Plus, they’ve dipped their toes in games like Dune: Awakening, Cyberpunk 2077, and Sea of Thieves. Quite a list!
And in bigger news, it seems like layoffs are kind of contagious these days — Microsoft, not far behind with yet another round of job cuts. What a world, huh?
